Brief History
Republic Act No. 3844, as amended, created LANDBANK in 1963 with the aim of providing financial support and technical services needed to implement the government's agrarian reform program. Over the years, LANDBANK recognized that access to agricultural credit by itself is not enough to address the needs of small farmers and fisherfolks, i.e., improved productivity, income, and repayment capacity. Marketing assistance and appropriate technology transfer and institutional capability-building initiatives are just as crucial apart from sustained delivery of financial assistance. Thus, Masaganang Sakahan Inc. (MSI) was conceived in the latter part of 1974 as a wholly-owned and controlled subsidiary of LANDBANK to provide needed marketing support to small farmers and fisherfolks co-ops being assisted by the Bank. MSI started operations in July 1975.
