LANDBANK hails outstanding cooperatives
The Land Bank of the Philippines recently honored the country?s top cooperatives at its annual Gawad sa Pinakatanging Kooperatiba (Gawad PITAK) awarding ceremony at Malacañang Palace.
Every year, LANDBANK awards the Gawad PITAK to the country?s most outstanding cooperatives to reward the exemplary performance of Bank-assisted cooperatives. "Through Gawad Pitak, LANDBANK hopes to honor the achievements of these cooperatives and to inspire other fledgling cooperatives to replicate their success," said LANDBANK president and CEO, Gary B. Teves.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Finance Secretary Jose Isidro Camacho, Agriculture Secretary Luis Lorenzo joined Teves in declaring the winners in both the agri- and non agri-based categories, as well as the winner of the second annual Ginintuang Gawad PITAK, a special award given to the best agri-based cooperative among the Gawad PITAK Hall of Fame awardees. "The Ginintuang Gawad PITAK encourages Hall of Famers to build on their successes by improving even further on their performance," Teves added.
The Hall of Fame award is given to a cooperative that has already won a grand prize, as well as a second or third prize in previous Gawad PITAK searches.
LANDBANK awarded the Ginintuang Gawad PITAK to Lamac Multi-purpose Cooperative, which received the largest prize, fixed assets worth P1 million.
Winners in the agri-based category:
" 1st place " Sts. Peter and Paul Multi-purpose Cooperative (SPPMPC) from Hinunangan, Southern Leyte won fixed assets worth P500,000 and a study tour to the Bavarian Cooperative Sector in Bavaria, Germany, courtesy of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
" 2nd place " Diffun Credit and Development Cooperative (DICREDECO) of Diffun, Quirino won fixed assets worth P400,000.
" 3rd place " Tayabas Community Multi-purpose Cooperative (TCMC) of Tayabas, Quezon won fixed assets worth P300,000.
" 4th place " Landan People's Multi-purpose Cooperative (LPMPC) of Polomolok, South Cotabato received fixed assets worth P200,000.
" 5th place " Emmanuel Multi-purpose Cooperative (EMPCI) from Cuenca, Batangas which won P100,000 worth of fixed assets.
Winners in the non agri-based category:
" 1st place " Nueva Vizcaya Alay Kapwa Multi-purpose Cooperative of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya won fixed assets worth P300,000.
" 2nd place " Novaliches Development Cooperative (NOVADECI) of Novaliches, Quezon City won fixed assets worth P200,000.
" 3rd place " San Dionisio Credit Cooperative of San Dionisio, Parañaque City won fixed assets worth P100,000.
" 4th place " Dingle Government Workers Cooperative of Dingle, Iloilo received fixed assets worth P75,000.
" 5th place " Five Star Savings and Credit Development Cooperative (CREDECO) won fixed assets worth P50,000.
The winner of the Hall of Fame award was the Barangka Credit Cooperative (BCC), from Marikina City which won fixed assets worth P100,000.
First Isabela Co-op Bank won in the Cooperative Rural Bank category, bringing home fixed assets worth P200,000. The Cooperative Bank of Bohol won second place, receiving fixed assets worth P100,00, and third place was awarded to Cooperative Bank of Zamboanga, who won fixed assets worth P75,000.
Major cooperative awardees also received an additional prize of fixed assets worth P40,000 in celebration of LANDBANK's 40th anniversary.
This year's Board of Judges is chaired and co-chaired by the chairmen of the Senate's and House of Representatives' Committee on Cooperatives - Senator Rodolfo Biazon and Rep. Generoso Tulagan, respectively, with Teves acting as vice-chair.
Other members of the panel are: Senator Ramon Magsaysay, Jr., Rep. Agapito Aquino, the heads of the Department of Agrarian Reform, Department Agriculture, Cooperative Development Authority, Philippine Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas, National Confederation of Cooperatives, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Hanns Seidel Foundation, and Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative, Inc. - the first Ginintuang Gawad PITAK awardee.
