LANDBANK’s Financial Inclusion Caravan bagged an award for the second time this year with the conferment of a Silver Anvil under the Specialized Public Relations Programs - Advocacy Campaign Category at the 53rd Anvil Awards held recently at Shangri-La The Fort in Taguig City. This comes a month after the program was also recognized by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) as an “Outstanding Development Project” under the Financial Inclusion Category of the ADFIAP Development Awards 2018.

“We are grateful for these awards, which assure us that we are on the right track in our continuing campaign to promote greater financial literacy and inclusion, especially in underserved and unbanked areas across the country,“ said LANDBANK Executive Vice President for Corporate Services Julio D. Climaco, Jr.

The LANDBANK Financial Inclusion Caravan is the Bank’s financial literacy program designed to help bring more Filipinos into the fold of formal banking services and contribute to the government’s thrust to promote greater financial inclusion.

The second run of the caravan which ran from September 2017 to March 2018 gathered a total of 3,678 participants and covered a total of eight 4th to 6th class municipalities across the country, namely: Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo and Argao, Cebu in the Visayas; Sugbongcogon Misamis Oriental and Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte in Mindanao; and Kiangan, Ifugao, Moncada, Tarlac, Cuenca, Batangas, and Pilar, Sorsogon in Luzon. Of the nearly 4,000 participants, almost 75% opened savings accounts for the first time. These include small business owners, farmers and fishers, as well as beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of 4Ps.

The series of half-day forums comprised of topics such as basic financial learning and savings, livelihood opportunities, and introduction to formal banking products and services. It also included talks on the benefits of maintaining a bank account and practical money tips. LANDBANK also put up an ATM and Cash Deposit Machine demonstration booth to acquaint participants with use of the machines.

This second caravan series follows the successful pilot run in 2016 which gathered close to 4,000 participants from nine 4th to 6th class municipalities, of which roughly 50% opened savings accounts.

The program is a partnership with various local government units, LANDBANK’s partner cooperatives, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and FINTQ, the financial technology arm of PLDT and Smart’s Voyager Innovations.

The Anvil Awards, presented annually by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, is the oldest award-giving body in the local public relations industry. Meanwhile, the ADFIAP Development Awards recognizes member-banks which have undertaken and/or assisted projects that have created a development impact in their respective countries.
