DAVAO CITY – The Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) is stepping-up to accelerate the adoption of cashless transactions in this City’s biggest public market, in support of the Central Bank's thrust of transforming the country into a cash-lite economy. LANDBANK joined the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the City Government of Davao during the launch of the Paleng-QR Ph program at the Bankerohan Public Market last 23 November, to provide local stakeholders with their own bank accounts. The LANDBANK Mobile Branch was deployed to facilitate on-the-spot account opening among market vendors and shop owners, as well as market goers. New LANDBANK account holders were automatically enrolled in the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA), which can facilitate the transfer and receipt of funds via Quick Response (QR) code. “LANDBANK fully supports the Paleng-QR Ph program in encouraging local communities to adopt cashless payments. We are bringing digital payments closer to consumers to make everyday transactions faster, safer and more convenient, where development is truly inclusive,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia C. Borromeo. The Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank), the official digital bank of the Philippine government and a subsidiary of LANDBANK, also participated in the event and offered its deposit products to Davaoeños. The launch of Paleng-QR Ph in Davao City was spearheaded by BSP Governor Felipe M. Medalla and Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte. They were joined by BSP Monetary Board Members Antonio S. Abacan, Jr., V. Bruce J. Tolentino, Anita Linda R. Aquino and Eli M. Remolona, and Deputy Governors Eduardo G. Bobier and Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, DILG XI Assistant Regional Director Abdullah Matalam, and Vice Mayor Jay Melchor B. Quitain, Jr. Jointly developed by the BSP and DILG, the Paleng-QR Ph program aims to build the digital payments ecosystem in the country by promoting cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, particularly tricycles. LANDBANK has been supporting the BSP’s digitalization thrust by providing its customers with innovative digital banking platforms. Most recently, the Bank launched the LANDBANKPay, an all-in-one mobile wallet that allows users to conveniently pay bills, load up mobile phones and tollway RFID accounts, make online purchases, as well as transfer funds anytime, anywhere. Since the pandemic started, LANDBANK has also recorded a consistent increase in customer demand for digital financial transactions. In the first three quarters of the year alone, the Bank facilitated a total of 111.3 million transactions amounting to P4.6 trillion across its major digital platforms, for 15% and 169% year-on-year growths in volume and value, respectively. The LANDBANK MBA topped the list in terms of transaction volume facilitated, after recording 87.6 million transactions worth P154.3 billion.

The Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have partnered to synergize initiatives in ensuring the interoperability of the applications and systems of both institutions. Borromeo formalized the collaboration with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the Inter-Government Agency MOU Ceremonial Signing for E-Governance event on 2 December 2022 at the Marriot Hotel in Pasay City, Manila. Under the MOU, LANDBANK and DICT will harmonize, coordinate, and integrate their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) efforts, which include resource sharing, database building and agency networking linkages. “Our Memorandum of Understanding with the DICT represents another significant step in LANDBANK’s digital transformation journey, leveraging on innovative partnerships and investing in digital solutions to deliver secure financial services and products to our customers,” said President Borromeo. From January to October 2022, LANDBANK’s major digital banking platforms have facilitated a total of 123.3 million transactions amounting to P4.8 trillion, translating to 14% and 156% year-on-year growths in volume and value, respectively. The LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA) for retail customers recorded 97 million transactions amounting to P171.3 billion for 18% and 28% growth rates, respectively. The Bank’s corporate internet banking platform, the LANDBANK weAccess, facilitated 14.2 million transactions worth P3 trillion, representing an unprecedented 664% jump in value from the same period last year. The LANDBANK Electronic Modified Disbursement System (eMDS) for national government partners logged 1.9 million transactions with total value of P1.6 trillion, translating to increases of 17% and 20% in transactions and value, respectively. Meanwhile, the LANDBANK iAccess continued to post a 16% growth in transaction value amounting to P14.3 billion from 4.3 million transactions. The Bank’s web-based payment facility, the LANDBANK Link.BizPortal, likewise continued to record a 50% rise in transaction volume with 4.9 million transactions worth P9.8 billion. Lastly, the LANDBANK Bulk Crediting System (LBCS) facilitated transactions worth P18.9 billion for a significant 608% leap compared to the same period last year.

Launched on 07 February 2023 with the theme, “Sama-sama sa Bagong Pag-asa,” the RTB-29 is a five-and-a-half-year bond with a coupon rate of 6.125% per annum. Proceeds of this safe and high-yielding investment instrument will help fund the country’s development plans for agriculture, infrastructure, education, and healthcare systems, among others. “We expect RTB-29 to be well-received by the market given the higher interest rates. The more retail investors participate in RTBs, the faster we are to advancing the country’s development agenda where no one is left behind,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo. Interested investors may conveniently purchase the RTB-29 with a minimum investment of P5,000 and integral multiples thereof, via the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App. This feature is also available in the Mobile Banking App of the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank), the official digital bank of the Philippine government and a subsidiary of LANDBANK. Investors of the RTB-29 can also make online placements through the BTr Online Ordering Facility and settle the payments via LANDBANK’s Link.BizPortal, free of charge. Over-the-counter placements are accepted in all LANDBANK branches nationwide. Holders of previously issued bonds, namely FXTN 5-75, 7-58, and 20-5, may also exchange and reinvest their bond holdings for the latest bond offer. The public offer period for RTB-29 is ongoing until 17 February 2023, with issue date on 22 February. The maturity date is on 22 August 2028. LANDBANK is the Joint Lead Issue Manager for the RTB-29. It is part of its continued support for greater financial inclusion and boosting public resources to fund various recovery and development programs.

The state-owned Bank facilitated a total of 155.8 million digital transactions for a 14% increase over the previous year, as more customers shift to using convenient, reliable, and safe digital banking solutions. “LANDBANK’s digital channels continue to service the growing customer demand for contactless financial transactions. We are driven to support our expanding retail customer base, to deliver convenient and responsive services to more customers nationwide,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo. The LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA) facilitated the highest number of transactions among the channels at 123.6 million amounting to P227 billion, recording jumps of 19% in transactions and 32% in value from the previous year. Meanwhile, the Bank’s online retail banking channel, iAccess, posted a 15% rise in transactions value year-on-year to P17.7 billion. The LANDBANK Link.BizPortal facilitated 5.8 million transactions amounting to P11.6 billion, equivalent to 49% and 11% increases, respectively. The web-based payment facility also onboarded 314 new partners for a total of 1,136 merchants, of which 798 are from the public sector. For corporate clients, the LANDBANK weAccess yielded a significant leap of 540% in total value over the previous year, with P3.13 trillion in transactions. For national government agency partners, the Electronic-Modified Disbursement System (eMDS) facilitated 2.5 million or 15% more transactions, amounting to P2.1 trillion representing a 22% growth rate. The LANDBANK Bulk Credit System (LBCS) facilitated 1.8 million transactions amounting to P28.5 billion, for increases of 1,526% and 697%, respectively. For 2023, LANDBANK is looking to grow its digital transactions by at least 60% in terms of both volume and value. The Bank is also implementing an intensified communication campaign through its social media channels to help protect customers from phishing scams and other forms of online banking fraud. LANDBANK posts weekly #SafeModeMonday, #FraudFreeFriday and #ScamAlert featuring reminders and best practices on its social media channels, to regularly provide the public with tips on spotting cyberattacks, how to prevent different forms of phishing, and keeping online credentials confidential, among other online security measures.

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – The Land Bank of Philippines (LANDBANK) and the Provincial Government of Bohol have partnered for the roll-out of an innovative fish buy-back scheme that will provide local fishers a sure market for their daily catch while reducing the consumer price of fish in the province. Under the Fish Buy Back Program, the Provincial Government of Bohol will directly buy the fish catch of local fishers’ associations and handle the sales to partner trader groups. LANDBANK, for its part, will ensure the availability of affordable financing to support the operations of the participating parties and facilitate the disbursement of cashless payments under the partnership. Aumentado and LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo Borromeo signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 10 March 2023 at the Bohol Provincial Capitol in Tagbilaran City for the Fish Buy Back Program. They were joined by Provincial Administrator Aster C. Caberte, LANDBANK Senior Vice Presidents Elsie Fe NB. Tagupa and Khurshid U. Kalabud, along with participating fishers’ associations, and fish vendor and trader groups. “We are pleased to take part in this timely and impactful initiative to advance the local fishing industry, which will benefit both local fishers and consumers. You can be assured of LANDBANK’s steadfast commitment to the objectives we have set out to accomplish under this program,” said LANDBANK President Borromeo. Under the partnership, LANDBANK will provide loans to 25 participating fishers’ associations through the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF), to support the acquisition of fishing equipment such as fishing boats, marine engines, and fish nets, as well as production inputs for fish cage culture. The Bank will also extend loans to 10 partner fish vendor and trader groups for the purchase of local fish catch from the Provincial Government, including its commercial distribution, at a price lower than the prevailing market price. “I’d like to thank LANDBANK for allowing us to have this project. We cannot do it without your support,” said Governor Aumentado, adding that he looks forward to more collaboration projects with the Bank. The Provincial Government of Bohol is expected to officially implement the Fish Buy Back Program in the four priority municipalities of Talibon, Bien Unido, Getafe, and Buenavista this March at the earliest, with plans of eventual roll-out in other parts of the province. LANDBANK has already approved a total of P162.8 million in loans for 17 fishers’ associations and 7 fish trader groups to jumpstart the Fish Buy Back Program. They will enjoy an annual interest rate of as low as 2%, with a repayment period of five (5) years, payable every six months from the date of the initial drawdown. Meanwhile, in line with the Provincial Government’s push for digitalization, the Program will adopt a cashless arrangement for faster and more secure disbursement of funds. All payments between the Provincial Government, fishers’ associations and trader groups will be facilitated through LANDBANK’s iAccess and weAccess facilities. Members of the participating fishers’ associations have also been encouraged to use the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App and LANDBANKPay to enjoy free and real-time fund transfers.

PORO, Cebu – 74-year-old Jesus Abao Wong has always dreamed of teaching his granddaughter the value of saving for the future – a lasting legacy he hopes she will cherish someday. “I have always wanted to open an ATM savings account for my granddaughter and teach her how to save for her future,” he said. However, he was worried that his 12-year-old granddaughter, Dhaemyze, would have difficulty opening and managing her own bank account, especially in preparing and submitting the necessary documentary requirements. So when he learned about the PISO (Perang Inimpok Savings Option) account offered by the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK), he immediately accompanied Dhaemyze to the LANDBANK Camotes Branch and successfully opened her very first bank account, with just P1.00 as initial deposit and one valid identification card. “The process was as easy as 1-2-3. As soon as we entered the premises of LANDBANK, we were promptly assisted by the personnel who helped us throughout the application process,” Jesus excitedly shared. Launched in 2022, the LANDBANK PISO account is offered to individuals without existing deposit accounts and have no capacity to open a regular deposit savings account with higher maintaining balance and documentary requirements. With her LANDBANK PISO account, Dhaemyze can now securely keep her extra cash from her school allowance and savings, and more importantly, develop healthy financial habits at an early age with the guidance of her grandfather. “LANDBANK personnel have always been courteous and friendly. As a customer, I am confident that they will always be ready to assist the banking needs of my granddaughter anytime,” added Jesus. Banking the unbanked As of 31 March 2023, LANDBANK has opened close to 18,000 PISO accounts for unbanked and underserved Filipinos, including students, public utility vehicle drivers, vendors, household helpers, farmers, and fishers. This covers remote communities across the country, reaching as far as the municipalities of Basco, Batanes; Moalboal, Cebu; Mati, Davao Oriental, and Claver, Surigao del Norte, among other far-flung areas. With the LANDBANK PISO, accountholders can access the Bank’s menu of digital banking channels such as the iAccess, Link.BizPortal, and the Mobile Banking App for convenient fund transfer, bills payment, and balance inquiry services. The LANDBANK MBA’s facilitated value also went up by 31% to P61.79 billion with an 8% jump in total transactions of 32.2 million. The LBCS saw the biggest increase in value at 1,402% amounting to P19.7 billion from 1.8 million recorded transactions. The Bank's eMDS platform likewise experienced significant growth in value by 22% to P447.5 billion from a total of 597,496 transactions, which is equivalent to about 85% of all disbursements of the National Government in the first three months of the year. Meanwhile, a total of 4 million accounts have been opened via the LANDBANK Digital Onboarding System (DOBS) since 2018, which include accounts opened for clients of the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank), the official digital bank of the Philippine government and a subsidiary of LANDBANK. LANDBANK clients can transfer up to P50,000.00 per transaction via Instapay, and now as much as P100,000.00 in total per day. The state-run Bank recently reduced its transaction rate for fund transfer via InstaPay from P25 to P15 starting from 15 June 2023. “We continue to extend the limits of our digital banking solutions to meet the growing needs of our diverse client base. LANDBANK is driven to promote greater digital adoption to help accelerate financial inclusion in the country and build a cashless society,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. The Bank also removed the daily transaction limit for both fund transfer and bills payment, allowing customers to perform an unlimited number of transactions per day. The previous daily aggregate amount limit of P50,000.00 for bills payment facilitated through the LANDBANK iAccess has likewise been removed. LANDBANK is currently working on providing depositors the ability to set their own fund transfer and bills payment limits for added flexibility and convenience. Meanwhile, inter-bank fund transfers using LANDBANK and Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) accounts remain free of charge. The state-run Bank facilitated 94.7 million transactions worth P1.9 trillion from January to June 2023, representing year-on-year jumps of 22% and 41% in volume and value, respectively. The combined digital transactions were made through the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA), Electronic Modified Disbursement System (eMDS), LANDBANK Bulk Crediting System (LBCS), Link.BizPortal, iAccess, and weAccess. “More customers continue to embrace the advantages of using LANDBANK’s digital banking solutions. We will drive investments to upgrade our digital infrastructure further, to continue providing convenient, accessible, and secure services,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. The LANDBANK MBA accounted for the bulk of the total digital transactions, facilitating 76.1 million transactions amounting to P140.5 billion. These translate to year-on-year expansions of 27% and 36% in volume and value, respectively. LANDBANK customers mostly use the MBA for fund transfer and bills payment, as well as for purchasing government bonds, including the Retail Treasury Bonds Tranche 29 (RTB-29) offered in February 2023. The eMDS, LANDBANK’s internet facility for national government agencies, registered the highest transaction value at P1.3 trillion for a 36% jump from P966.2 billion in the same period a year ago. Total transactions likewise grew by 15% to 1.4 million from 1.2 million. Meanwhile, the Bank’s electronic bulk disbursement facility, LBCS, saw the most significant increases in utilization and value in the first half of the year, with total transactions reaching 3.6 million valued at P32.3 billion for unprecedented growth rates of 6,737% and 398%, respectively. The LANDBANK Link.BizPortal, a web-based payment channel for paying for products and services online, also posted a 44% rise in volume to 4 million transactions worth P6 billion. The value of transactions facilitated via LANDBANK’s online retail banking channel, iAccess, and its corporate internet banking platform, weAccess, likewise improved by 3% and 53% to P9.1 billion and P433.3 billion, respectively. With the continued adoption of digital banking, LANDBANK continues to remind customers and the public to be more vigilant against phishing scams and other forms of online banking fraud. The Bank is regularly posting on its official social media channels security reminders and best practices to avoid falling victim to fraudulent activities online.
