LANDBANK tapped to deliver pre-disaster aid in typhoon-prone towns

(left to right) DSWD Undersecretary Felicisimo C. Budiongan, UNICEF Philippines Deputy Representative Behzad Noubary, LANDBANK Senior Vice President Marilou L. Villafranca, and UNICEF Chief of Social Policy Atty. Anjanette Saguisag, lead the signing of a memorandum of understanding on 14 June 2022 in Quezon City for the distribution of multi-purpose unconditional cash transfers in typhoon-prone communities in Catanduanes and Northern Samar under the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for Anticipatory Action.  The Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to provide pre-disaster financial assistance to about 22,000 families from typhoon-prone towns in Catanduanes and Northern Samar. Under the partnership, LANDBANK will facilitate the disbursement of multi-purpose unconditional cash transfers to beneficiaries under the DSWD’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program worth P1,000 each via LANDBANK Prepaid Cards. The cash transfers will be disbursed three days prior to the expected landfall of a Category 4 or 5 typhoon.  Target beneficiaries of the program—more popularly known as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps)—include families residing in the municipalities of Baras, Bato, San Andres and Virac in Cantanduanes, and the municipalities of Catarman, Catubig, Gamay, Mondragon, and San Roque in Northern Samar.  The provision of cash transfers to selected 4Ps beneficary-households is part of the pilot testing of the United Nations (UN) Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for Anticipatory Action in the country, designed to mitigate the impact of typhoons on people’s homes and livelihood while building on the government’s mandatory pre-emptive evacuation procedures. DSWD Undersecretary Felicisimo C. Budiongan, UNICEF Philippines Deputy Representative Behzad Noubary and Chief of Social Policy Atty. Anjanette Saguisag, and LANDBANK Senior Vice President Marilou L. Villafranca signed a memorandum of understanding on 14 June 2022 in Quezon City to formalize the partnership.  “LANDBANK’s collaboration with the DSWD and UNICEF ensures the delivery of immediate and secure cash assistance to vulnerable sectors in high-risk towns prone to typhoons. This complements our efforts towards building stronger and more resilient communities, as part of our broader thrust of serving the nation,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia C. Borromeo. Beneficiaries can use the LANDBANK Prepaid Cards to withdraw cash assistance from LANDBANK automated teller machines (ATMs) and Agent Banking Partners, and make cashless purchases in groceries and drugstores via point-of-sale (POS) terminals.  The state-run Bank has also upgraded the existing LANDBANK prepaid cards of the beneficiaries into transaction accounts with expanded features to provide more convenient banking services.  As of end-May 2022, LANDBANK has produced cards for all 4.4 million 4Ps beneficiaries nationwide to facilitate timely, safe and convenient distribution of cash subsidies from the National Government.  LANDBANK remains steadfast in the fulfillment of its expanded mandate as the delivery arm for the National Government’s social protection initiatives, in line with servicing the country’s underserved and marginalized sectors.

New LANDBANK ATMs drive financial inclusion in Guimaras

Residents from the remote towns of Sibunag and San Lorenzo now enjoy easy access to their cash needs with the newly-installed LANDBANK ATMs in Sibunag Municipal Hall in Brgy. Dasal (right photo) and San Lorenzo Municipal Compound in Brgy. Cabano (left photo). GUIMARAS – In line with its commitment of bringing convenient and reliable banking services closer to more Filipinos, the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) has ramped up expansion efforts in this island province with the installation of two new automated teller machines (ATMs) in the far-flung towns of Sibunag and San Lorenzo.  The new LANDBANK touchpoints are strategically located at the Sibunag Municipal Hall in Brgy. Dasal and San Lorenzo Municipal Compound in Brgy. Cabano to primarily service residents from 25 combined barangays, which includes farmers, fishers, local government employees, teachers, and other depositors.  Over 7,600 beneficiaries of the Conditional and Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will also benefit from faster and more efficient payout services through the new ATMs.  “Our continued expansion in remote and underserved areas advances our continuing thrust towards financial inclusion. LANDBANK will remain focused on reaching and serving all our customers nationwide, as we firm up our support in pushing the National Government’s inclusive development agenda,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. Jenefer Salmorin, a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary from Sibunag, said that the availability of a LANDBANK ATM in their town makes claiming of financial assistance from the National Government more convenient and accessible.  This helps DSWD beneficiaries like her, along with other residents, to save time and money from traveling at least 25 minutes to the Municipality of Jordan and spending P50.00 for a special ride just to withdraw their financial assistance.  For Sibunag Mayor Annabelle V. Samaniego, the installation of the new LANDBANK ATM in the town also provides improved access to formal financial services and promotes financial literacy among residents.  “This has lessened our consumed time, money, and effort just to withdraw cash we needed. On behalf of the people of the Municipality of Sibunag, I am expressing my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to LANDBANK as our genuine partner for the development of the municipality,” said Mayor Samaniego. LANDBANK is the only bank present in all five municipalities of the Province of Guimaras, servicing the banking requirements of residents through the Guimaras Branch in Brgy. San Miguel in Jordan, with 10 ATMs, one cash deposit machine (CDM), and seven Agent Banking Partners (ABPs) located throughout the province. In support of the province’s digitalization efforts, the Bank has also successfully onboarded the provincial government and all municipal governments in its Link.BizPortal facility, which allows residents to pay for local dues online without the need to physically visit the LGU offices.  As of end-April 2023, LANDBANK has 606 branches and branch-lite units, 58 lending centers, 2,920 ATMs, 224 CDMs, and 1,743 ABP POS cash-out terminals, which are spread strategically across all 82 provinces of the country.

New LANDBANK ATM expands financial inclusion in Ifugao

LANDBANK inaugurates the new ATM in Aguinaldo, Ifugao led by Aguinaldo Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. (4th from right) and LANDBANK Santiago Branch Head AVP Virginia Savilla (3rd from right), which will serve all 16 barangays in the municipality. AGUINALDO, Ifugao – In line with advancing financial inclusivity, the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) recently inaugurated its new offsite ATM in the Municipality of Aguinaldo, Ifugao. As the only financial institution servicing the municipality, LANDBANK’s ATM located at the Ubao Barangay Hall will play a vital role in addressing the financial needs of the 16 barangays in Aguinaldo, as well as other neighboring towns. Aguinaldo Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. and LANDBANK Santiago Branch Head AVP Virginia Savilla led the ceremonial event on 05 September 2023, together with other local officials. "We remain steadfast in expanding our touchpoints to provide accessible and responsive financial support and services nationwide, especially in unbanked and underserved areas in the countryside," said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. The new LANDBANK ATM will add to the two point-of-sale (POS) terminals of the Aguinaldo Pomochan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, a LANDBANK Agent Banking Partner (ABP) that provides basic financial transactions on behalf of the Bank. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to LANDBANK for this invaluable ATM addition, sparing our residents the unnecessary hassles of seeking distant banking facilities. This initiative significantly enhances the accessibility and convenience of banking services within our community," said Mayor Chilagan. The strategic placement of the LANDBANK ATM will also benefit various segments of the community, including municipal government employees, pensioners, teachers, police and military personnel, 4Ps beneficiaries, senior citizens, jeepney operators and drivers, and other recipients of the national government’s social programs. LANDBANK continues to step up the expansion of its touchpoints to help bridge the gap of financial accessibility for residents in remote areas, contributing to economic growth and development in the regions. The state-run Bank is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, representing six decades of uplifting lives, empowering communities, and serving the nation — all in pursuit of an inclusive and sustainable economy.

LANDBANK advances financial inclusion for farmers, fishers in GIDA communities

LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz (middle) leads the rollout of the Bilis Ipon: Digital Financial Inclusion Caravan in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur on 01 February 2024 to bring banking and financing services closer to local farmers, fishers, and 4Ps beneficiaries.  In line with bringing banking and financing services closer to far-flung and underserved communities, the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) has been rolling out a series of caravans nationwide to introduce the Bank’s digital products and affordable loan offerings.  LANDBANK has successfully conducted the "Bilis Ipon: Digital Financial Inclusion Caravan” in 13 provinces this year, which includes communities classified as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).  Over 700 farmers, fishers, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, and local partners have participated in insightful discussions and demonstrations on how to boost their savings and livelihood.  The caravan offers participants on-the-spot opening of the new LANDBANK PISO Plus basic deposit account, with no initial deposit and maintaining balance. The rollouts also feature the new AGRISENSO Lending Program, designed to provide affordable credit assistance for small farmers and Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), among other agriculture players.   “We at LANDBANK believe that financial inclusion is the cornerstone of empowered and resilient communities. We remain steadfast with our commitment to bridging the financial gap by bringing accessible banking solutions closer to Filipinos, including those in remote and underserved areas,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz. LANDBANK remains the only Bank present in all 82 provinces of the country, with physical presence in 1,437 cities and municipalities out of the total 1,634 for an 88% nationwide coverage as of January 2024.  To better service GIDAs, the Bank is partnering with local players—cooperatives, rural banks, local government units (LGUs), micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and private entities—to provide basic banking services through its LANDBANKasama Program.  The collaboration helps local customers save on transportation costs as they no longer need to travel to other towns and cities to perform cash withdrawals and cash deposits, fund transfers, bills payments, and balance inquiries, among basic banking transactions.  (left photo) Plaridel Mayor Gadwin E. Handumon (4th from left) and LANDBANK senior officials join the participants after the successful cash-out demonstration with a LANDBANKasama Partner during the Digital Financial Inclusion Caravan in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental on 16 February 2024. (right photo) Plaridel Farmer Lolita C. Palangpangan shares that the presence of a LANDBANKasama Partner near them can save her P70 on transportation.  “Ang nakaayo sa LANDBANK kay dili na kaayo gastos kay mas gamay na man ang among plitehan kay naa ra man sa duol ang among co-op, ikumpara sa moadto mi sa LANDBANK branch nga layo,” said farmer Lolita C. Palangpangan during the recent Caravan in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, noting that she now saves P70 on transportation.  (“One benefit of LANDBANKasama is lower transportation costs for us since our co-op is located nearby, compared to the fare we pay for traveling to a more distant LANDBANK branch.”) Another leg of the Caravan in Ilocos Sur on 01 February 2024 saw LANDBANK sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives (NSCC) to onboard more than 400 cooperative-affiliates as new LANDBANKasama Partners. The Bank currently has over 1,080 LANDBANKasama Partners nationwide operating 1,825 point-of-sale (POS) terminals.  The next run of the LANDBANK Bilis Ipon: Digital Financial Inclusion Caravan will be held in Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Ilocos Norte, and Negros Occidental, in line with the Bank’s continuing efforts to promote financial inclusion and inclusive development in the country.  ABOUT LANDBANK LANDBANK is the largest development financial institution in the country promoting financial inclusion, digital transformation and sustainable development to benefit Filipinos.
