President Marcos lauds LANDBANK’s virtual forum for agri players

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (leftmost), who is also Agriculture Secretary, extends his compliments to LANDBANK in the last run of the AgriSenso Virtual Forum on 05 January 2023, for supporting his administration’s development agenda towards revitalizing the agriculture sector. Finance Secretary and LANDBANK Chairman Benjamin E. Diokno (top row, rightmost) and LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo (bottom row, rightmost) also delivered their messages, as Bank officers and other government partners lead the discussions on agri-mechanization, climate resilient agriculture, and greenhouse farming. President and concurrent Agriculture Secretary Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. commended the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) for supporting his administration’s development agenda for the agriculture sector through a series of virtual forums with local agri players to discuss present challenges and opportunities of growth.  “I congratulate Land Bank of the Philippines for taking the initiative to advance this administration’s mission of revitalizing the agricultural sector through the AgriSenso Virtual Forums,” said President Marcos in his video message during the last run of the LANDBANK AgriSenso Virtual Forum on 05 January 2023.  “This event is the perfect platform for key stakeholders to address matters of utmost urgency as we face modern-day challenges, along with the difficulties that have plagued the industry since time immemorial,” he added.  For his part, Finance Secretary and LANDBANK Chairman Benjamin E. Diokno highlighted the crucial role of LANDBANK in supporting agri players by ensuring that the entire agri value chain has access to much-needed credit and other financial services, as he emphasized the importance of an efficient and modern agriculture sector to ensure food security and reduce poverty incidence.  Apart from fostering collaboration among industry key stakeholders, LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo said that the AgriSenso Virtual Forum is a good opportunity to offer LANDBANK’s financing programs and other support interventions. "LANDBANK fully supports the national government in realizing the development blueprint of this administration in modernizing the agriculture sector and achieving food sufficiency for the Philippines," she said. The seven sessions of the LANDBANK AgriSenso Virtual Forum, which ran from August 2022 to January 2023, gathered over 1,600 agricultural industry players and stakeholders nationwide to discuss key issues and concerns towards improving productivity and income. Each session was attended by industry experts from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and other concerned agencies who shared successful initiatives, industry challenges, and development plans of the National Government for each agriculture sub-sector.  Moderated by LANDBANK Vice President for Corporate Affairs Vivian M. Cañonero, the last AgriSenso Virtual Forum put the spotlight on agri-mechanization, climate resilient agriculture and greenhouse farming as the latest developments in the agriculture sector. The forum highlighted the importance of adopting modern farming technologies to reduce production costs and post-harvest losses, and enable agri players to increase farm productivity and income.  The forum featured Bureau of Agricultural and Fisheries Engineering (BAFE) Engr. IV Maria Evic Quigao, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) Senior Science Research Specialist Engr. Allen Denver V. Mangaoil, LANDBANK Program Management Department I, Assistant Vice President Engr. Edgardo S. Luzano, and LANDBANK client Engr. Romeo S. Vasquez. In support of the country’s agricultural mechanization and transformation, LANDBANK offers the Agri-Mechanization Financing Program, with total cumulative loan releases of P687.7 million as of 30 November 2022 for the benefit of over 890 farmers.  LANDBANK also provides credit assistance under the Climate Resilient Agriculture Financing Program, to promote climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives towards climate resilient agriculture. The Bank’s total loan releases under this program reached P1.9 billion as of end-November 2022.  Meanwhile, to help farmers shift towards a modern farming system through the adoption of greenhouse technology, LANDBANK is offering the Financing Program for Greenhouse Farming System. As of end-November 2022, the Bank has released a total of P8.6 million under the program.  The LANDBANK AgriSenso Virtual Forum forms part of the Bank’s overall support to the agriculture sector, facilitated by the LANDBANK Corporate Affairs Group (CAG) together with the National Development Lending Sector (NDLS) – Lending Program Management Group (LPMG).

LANDBANK launches scholarship program for dependents of ARBs, farmers, fishers

The Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) launched today a new scholarship program designed to assist deserving dependents of agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and small farmers and fisheries nationwide. Under the “Iskolar ng LANDBANK Program,” the Bank has allotted a total of P128 million to cover the educational expenses of 360 scholars from 2023 to 2028.  The Iskolar ng LANDBANK Program carries the theme: “600@60: Developing scholars and nurturing talents towards serving the nation,” representing the Bank’s target 600 scholar graduates—which includes graduates from the Bank’s previous scholarship program—in celebration of LANDBANK’s 60th anniversary this year.  “LANDBANK is committed to develop and nurture students as we assist in their journey from education to employment. The Iskolar ng LANDBANK Program underscores our efforts toward this end, and forms part of our intensified support to the agri sector. We are opening opportunities for the youth to improve the lives of their families and their communities, guiding them to successfully join our workforce and become significant contributors to nation-building,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo. Eligible scholars under the Program are the children and grandchildren of ARBs and small farmers and fishers who are high school graduates, with a minimum average grade of 90% or belonging to the top 10% of their class.  The scholarship will support 60 new scholars annually starting this year until 2028, and provide each with P100,000 per year to cover allowance and expenses for books, clothing, and other course requirements. Special cash incentives will also be awarded to scholars who will graduate with honors.  The scholars have 12 eligible courses to choose from, namely horticulture, animal science, food technology, data analytics, information technology, accounting, agribusiness management, and agricultural, IT, industrial or management, civil, and mechanical engineering.  The state-run Bank is set to partner initially with 12 State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) nationwide, to accommodate scholars in NCR; Northern, Central and Southern Luzon; Visayas; and Mindanao. Iskolar graduates will be also offered on-the job (OJT) training in LANDBANK Branches and Lending Centers, including the Bank’s partner agencies and institutions. The Iskolar ng LANDBANK Program will be managed by the LANDBANK Countryside Development Foundation, Inc. (LCDFI), the Bank’s corporate foundation which provides trainings and capacity-building programs.

LANDBANK opens new credit window to support coconut farmers

In line with supporting the country’s coconut industry, the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) is offering a new affordable credit facility to coconut farmers to increase production and income especially in coconut-producing communities nationwide. Under the LANDBANK Coconut Farmers and Industry Development (CFID) Lending Program, eligible coconut farmers, cooperatives and associations can access financing for various projects, including the establishment of intercrops and poultry or livestock integration in coconut farms.  Individual coconut farmers can use the loan to increase production and working capital, to acquire machines and equipment, and establish necessary facilities. Coconut cooperatives and associations can also utilize the financing for relending and rediscounting to their members. The LANDBANK CFID Lending Program supports the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), which outlines the policies and directions to rehabilitate and modernize the Philippine coconut industry.   "The CFID Lending Program forms part of the National Government’s whole-of-nation approach towards providing meaningful investments to the coconut industry. LANDBANK remains committed to providing accessible and affordable credit to coconut farmers nationwide to help improve their livelihood," said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo. Under the CFID Lending Program, LANDBANK will provide short-term and long-term loans of at least P1 million, with a fixed affordable interest rate of 2% per annum.  The loan program has a total P333.3 million fund composed of P83.3 million or 25% from LANDBANK funds and P250 million or 75% from the Credit Component Allocation under the Coconut Farmers Industry Trust Fund (CFITF) Act, which was signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in February 2021. The LANDBANK CFID Lending Program will run until 2071 to accommodate as many players from the coconut industry as possible. As COVID-19 recovery loans for LGUs hit P113-B: LANDBANK funds free public Wi-Fi in Quirino Province

ALL CONNECTED: Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” Cua takes a selfie with students from the Quirino General High School, who will soon benefit from the Province’s free public Wi-Fi project financed by the Land Bank of the Philippines. (Photo courtesy of the Provincial Government of Quirino) QUIRINO Province – When the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly forced schools to halt face-to-face classes and shift to online learning, the need for improved access to online learning resources became more pressing. Among those who struggled to cope with this set-up were students and teachers belonging to marginalized and rural areas in the Province of Quirino, as many of them did not have access to reliable and high-speed internet connection. To address this gap, the Provincial Government of Quirino under the leadership of Governor Dakila Carlo E. Cua sought the assistance of the Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) to enhance the internet connectivity and accessibility in the Province.  Under the RISE UP LGUs (Restoration and Invigoration package for a Self-sufficient Economy towards UPgrowth for LGUs) Lending Program, LANDBANK approved a P67-million loan to finance the digital infrastructure project of the Quirino LGU, which aims to provide free Wi-Fi in schools and other public areas in the Province in its first phase.  The LANDBANK loan covers the procurement of an internet service provider; Wi-Fi equipment such as routers, modems and cables; and the installation of towers, among other provisions. The installation of the Wi-Fi equipment is already underway, with the Quirino LGU prioritizing schools, public markets, rural health units, municipal and barangay halls, and other public spaces to maximize the benefits of the improved internet infrastructure. Once completed this year, the project will provide students and residents with free internet access with speed of up to two gigabytes per second. The free Wi-Fi project is expected to boost education, healthcare, tourism, and public services in the Province by enabling and enhancing access to convenient online platforms.  “LANDBANK’s financing facility is a big boost to the initiatives of LGUs. It provides relief to struggling LGUs while we ramp-up our efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic,” said Quirino Governor Cua. LANDBANK helps LGUs to rise up Under the RISE UP LGUs Lending Program, LANDBANK has approved loans totaling P113 billion for 408 LGUs as of 28 February 2023, to help ensure the resilient and sustainable recovery of local economies from the pandemic.  Provincial, city and municipal governments may borrow from LANDBANK to finance their development and innovative projects geared towards rebuilding their communities and local economies. “LANDBANK continues to support local government partners toward full recovery from the pandemic, while also strengthening their capacity to withstand future crises. We aim to help develop resilient communities as part of our expanded mandate of serving the nation,” said LANDBANK President and CEO Cecilia Cayosa Borromeo.  Eligible projects allowed under the Program include the purchase of agricultural produce, acquisition of equipment and construction of facilities to link products to the market, including other programs and projects of the LGU that provide basic and support services, social welfare, healthcare, and other infrastructure activities. LANDBANK has increased the fund allocation for the Program to P150 billion—15 times higher from the initial P10-billion in 2020—to accommodate more LGUs nationwide.  The LANDBANK RISE UP LGUs Lending Program will be available until July 2025.  Interested LGUs may contact the nearest LANDBANK Lending Center or Branch nationwide, or call LANDBANK’s customer service at (02) 8-405-7000 or at PLDT Domestic Toll Free 1-800-10-405-7000.
